September, here you are!
There are two things I don't like about Marbella: July and August. Streets are teeming with cars and noise, everywhere you look you see people, on the beach, in restaurants, down the street—even the most obscure one—at the park, in the swimming pool, in the garage, down the stairs, in the hallway, even in the elevator. During the day, at night, any time. And if it's summer 2015, well, it's hot, way too hot—the kind of hot that makes you drip when you step outside.
But every year, like clockwork, the 1st of September comes and breaks the curse. As if by magic, cars and people disappear. Noise fades out. The beach turns into a desert of empty sunbeds. And here it is again, my Marbella, the Marbella I fell in love with 8 years ago, with its gentle sea breeze that makes palm trees dance softly, its warm sun painted on the everblue sky and the sea—how can one live without the sea?—that, finally free from floating tourists, lulls you with its raspy voice.
And this is when mornings like this morning happen, a blanket on the grass, warmth on your skin, breeze through your hair, the sound of the sea in the distance and the best company ever. And for a couple of hours all troubles disappear, the fear of a new beginning, going back to work as a mother, planning schedules and talking to students, new responsibilities and old ones all mixed together. And it's just us, two sister-friends and their babies, talking about everything and nothing, on a fresh and quiet September morning after two months of heat and noise.
September, you're finally here!
