What it means to be full-time travellers during COVID-19

Somebody told me it is probably the best time to have this travel lifestyle, because we can choose to be anywhere we want. While I do feel extremely lucky to be able to choose (for now), I want to share with you what it looks like to be a full-time traveling family during COVID-19. It’s not as easy as it seems.

We don’t have a home, sold everything before leaving. Our home countries are on lockdown with our family and friends inside (even if we could go back, would it be right/smart?). We have only summer clothes, but it’ll be more and more difficult to follow the sun now. Traveling is anyway not responsible at this time. Countries will lock down. Airlines will shut.

We won’t feel welcome everywhere anymore. Every time we travel we’ll have to do a 14-day quarantine (not just because the country says so, but because it’s the right thing to do). We can’t stay put either, because of Visa. Many countries don’t let you in without a plane ticket out: that means we need a plan, which is impossible to have at the moment.

We’re grateful to have found this little piece on earth where we can lay low for a while. But we only have questions and very few answers. Like for everybody, for us too, this is a time of great uncertainty, a pinch of fear and lots of waiting.
