Teach English to your kids/toddlers at home with Super Simple Songs

This is going to be a simple, short post, but I’m pretty sure many of you will absolutely love it (and your little ones even more!).

Long time ago, I wrote a blog post about the best gift for your kids’ English. I wrote it from the perspective of an English teacher, because back then Oliver wasn’t born yet, and I wrote it only in Italian because La Tela was still in its pre-trilingual phase.

So today, I’d like to make up for all that by sharing with you a tool that I absolutely loved as a teacher and even more as a mom: Super Simple Songs.

I’ll keep it short and sweet: here you’ll find why I love these songs, where to buy them and how to use them with your kids.

Super Simple Songs are really simple!

These songs are just the best to introduce English to your kids or to have small toddlers sing along, because they’re a simplified version of famous songs or new songs made on famous tunes. Let me give you an example:

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands / If you’re happy and you know it and you really want to show it

with Super Simple Songs becomes:

If you’re happy, happy, happy, clap your hands / If you’re happy happy happy, clap your hands, clap your hands.

Repetitions is great for toddlers and kids learning a new language (or how to speak ;-), and the famous tunes makes it easy for parents to sing along. Other songs, like the famous “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” have a “learn it” version, which is slower for kids to learn it, and a “sing it”, faster version to have fun with it once you know it.

Where to find them

Nowadays, I’d personally opt for buying the digital version (.mp3) of the songs, that you can have always with you on your phone, computer, iPad (and yes, it’s also cheaper).

You can find them here (these are affiliate links, if you to use them you pay the same, but help this blog grow):

How to use them

Well, you listen to it! But not only. There’s a song for every activity, event, occasion, situation, holiday… and here’s a few ideas on how to use them:

  • Use them as background music when you do colouring activities.
  • Use them to have your little ones "do stuff" (I sometimes use the "Clean up" song in CD1 when the room is a mess and I want Oliver to help me out tidying up).
  • Dance to them: learn the moves on the Super Simple Learning website (it's amazing!), or invent your own!
  • Use them to complement activities: when you play with/learn about animals, you can use one of the many animal songs. I especially love the "Yes, I can", "Waking in the Jungle" or "Let's go to the zoo" from Animals collection. If you're learning about colours, make a fun game out of "I see something pink" or "I see something blue" from CD1.
  • Use them to learn about events: when it's raining outside, you can sing "Rain, Rain, go away" from CD3 or "How's the weather" from CD2.
  • Use them to learn about daily actions: for example, when you get dressed you can play "Put on your shoes" from CD1; when you walk down the street, you can sing
  • Use them to learn the most famous English kid songs: Head Shoulders (CD1), Old McDonald (CD3), The Wheels on the Bus (CD2), The Hokey Pokey (CD2), Five Little Monkeys (CD1).
  • Let your little ones guide you to invent new ways of using them!

Also in Spanish!

It’s not over! Super Simple Learning has just launched their brand-new Spanish Youtube channel: it’s called Super Simple Español and it’s already got lots of those classic English songs translated into Spanish and recorded by native singers. I’ll absolutely have to give it a go!
