The Dancers — fourth Montessori mobile

Oliver and Emily both loved this mobile

I want to show you the Montessori mobiles because they helped me greatly: with both my children they allowed me to have a few minutes to myself and helped teach them concentration and independence from an early age.

I have to admit that when I decided to make the Montessori mobiles myself, I procrastinated quite a bit before starting: all the tutorials I found online were either too approximative or too complicated—side B has to be double side A and three times side C—but I then remembered a very important mantra:

BETTER DONE THAN PERFECT

So I forgot about all the strict rules and used a bit of that creativity that all my young students really like. Oliver and Emily loved their Montessori mobiles, they could spend several minutes looking at them while lying on their mat alone in their room while I could have a quick shower, dress, clean, cook, work…

Dancers

These are the Montessori mobiles in order:

  • Munari 0-6 weeks
  • Octahedron 6-8 (or 5-8) weeks
  • Gobbi 7-10 weeks
  • Dancers 8-12 weeks

After the Munari, the first black-and-white Montessori mobile that my kids absolutely loved and that we used longer than expected, this was by far their favourite (and mine, too!). I love the way the shapes move naturally and come to live creating real dancers.

It's introduced when the baby is around 8 weeks, but with Oliver I was late on finishing it up so I started using it when he was 2,5 months old until he was over 4 months old. Better done than perfect.

💡 I send a monthly newsletter in which I talk about long term education (which includes Montessori, positive discipline, respectful parenting) and give parents lots of practical tips to make parenting way easier: if you're curious you can sign up here. The Dancers is the forth Montessori mobile that I made for Oliver and it’s also the last one: after this, we started with the series of the grasping and pulling mobiles.
